Both Leyburn and Hawes are traditional, country market towns with a wide variety of shops. Hawes is the nearest, Leyburn is bigger and Richmond is the largest.
Food & Drink
Most pubs down the valley offer great, and sometimes excellent food and drink. Most of the larger towns and villages also have cafe's for lighter bites. In Bainbridge the choices are:
Cornmill Tearooms (opposite). Light snacks, breakfasts, teas. For openings, see information on the cafe door.
The Rose & Crown. Food and drink in reputedly the oldest Inn in Yorkshire
Yorbridge House Hotel on the edge of the village on the road to Askrigg. Award winning cuisine open to non-residents
Ramsey's Fish & Chip Van. Parks on the green on Tuesday between 4.30 pm and 6.10 pm
Mobile Phones
Mostly don't work in the centre of Bainbridge. A short walk out of the village in any direction will get you a signal.
Buses
There is a regular bus service from Hawes to Leyburn which runs through the town. The bus stop is just down from the Rose and Crown.

Trains:
Garsdale (on the Settle Carlisle railway) is the nearest mainline station (20 minutes away) on the Kendal road.
There is a heritage railway based in Leyburn running occasional trains from Leyburn to Bedale

Recycling:
There is no recycling collection from the cottage. Bottles, plastics, tins, newspapers, boxes and cardboard can be put in the recycling bin just inside the school grounds ( at the top of the village) Please only do this out of school hours. Hawes, Askrigg and Leyburn have recycling facilities.
